Exercise and sport – a release for many of us – and sometimes in Luanda we need that! There are lots of options – some need more ‘digging around’ and planning than others, but hopefully there is something to please most people (for more information on kids sport – please go to the section Luanda for kids)

You might be lucky enough to be in Luanda with a company that has boats available for employee use. But if not – you can still get out into the bay to see the whales and dolphins, or to catch your fish supper.
- Contact Octopus – http://www.octopus-lda.com
Golf is definitely available in Luanda. There are two course (of hugely differing standards). A few members are golfers so – as ever – get in touch if you want a game, a group of us play nine holes at Mangais, on a reasonably regular basis.
- Mangais Golf Club – http://www.mangais.com/index.php/en/ – a beautiful 18 hole course on the banks of the river Kwanza.
- Golf de Luanda – a rough and ready 18 hole course on the road away from Benfica (200 yards further on from the market).
Lots of condominiums have their own gym – but if not try looking into the membership options at:
- Hotel Tropico – http://www.tdhotels.com/tropico/ing/leisure – Luanda City
- Luanda Sport – http://www.luandasportcenter.co.ao – Next to Vanan bakery, Talatona
- Aktive Fit – located inside the apart hotel Colinas Do Sol, Talatona
- Fit Center – a new gym located in Talatona – click here for FB details and contact information.
Horse riding is available in Luanda – see the website http://www.hipicadafunda.com for details.
Kite surfing is popular in Luanda – with surfers regularly visible in between the slave museum and Mussulo and also at the Ilha. Lessons can be obtained from Gusty Kite – http://www.gustykite.com
As ever in Luanda – there are impromptu opportunities to play rugby with some informal players getting together every now and then. There is also an expat club – Palancas Rugby Club – who play and train regularly. Get in touch with them for more information on training times by email – palancas.rugby@gmail.com
Running the streets of Luanda can be interesting! There are informal running groups to be found – and in the city you’ll see people running along the Marginal. For a more formal start – or to run with a bigger group, try the Hash group below:
- Luanda Hash House Harriers – https://www.facebook.com/groups/LuandaH3/
A new-ish addition to Luanda life – check out Octopus – http://www.octopus-lda.com for scuba diving, amongst other things
A couple of condominiums do have squash courts – but it is rare. There is a squash court available for use however, at the Hotel Tropico – http://www.tdhotels.com/tropico/ing/leisure – Luanda City
Luanda is a fabulous place to swim – with an almost all year ‘swimming outside’ climate (definitely all year if you are hardy enough!). Most condominiums have a swimming pool but there are also other opportunities:
- Clube Nautico – http://www.clubenautico.org – on the Ilha
- Piscine Olympique Alvalade – Rua Dr Leite Vasconcelo –
- Hotel Tropico – http://www.tdhotels.com/tropico/ing/leisure – Luanda City
As with the gyms, many condominiums have tennis courts. There are both informal tennis groups and tennis coaches about – so ask if you would like to be put in touch with people who play or have experience of certain coaches – that way we can make sure we pass on the most updated information. There are also other places to play:
- Clube Tenis Luanda – http://www.clubetenisluanda.org
- Hotel Tropico – http://www.tdhotels.com/tropico/ing/leisure – Luanda City
